Thursday: 9am until 3.45pm as a full day session or split as half day sessions of 9am until 12.15pm/12.45pm until 3.45pm.

Attendance requirements

Attendance at St James’ preschool is subject to minimum attendance requirements:

  • Children of 2½ years of age must attend at least 2 sessions per week.
  • Children 3 years of age and above must attend at least 4 sessions per week (the cost of these sessions is to be met by the parents when funding isn’t eligible).

Any deviation to these requirements is at the absolute discretion of the Management Committee.

Snacks and drinks

We run a daily snack bar for the children where water, semi-skimmed milk, fruit, vegetables and Rich Tea biscuits are provided. Children choose when they would like a snack and what they would like to encourage independence.

Water is always available and accessible to children through the session.

We obtain local authority funding for eligible aged children and those that qualify for 2 year old funding. Currently this is 3 hours per session, up to 15 hours per week. Please note we do charge top up fees for the session time not funded. Please click HERE for our fees policy. To secure your child's place at St James' Preschool, we require a £50 registration fee, which includes a preschool t-shirt.

We organise our sessions so that children can choose from, and work at, a range of activities. In doing so, they build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion.

The children are helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small and large group activities, which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work with others.

Outdoor activities contribute to children's health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them. All children have the opportunity, and are encouraged, to take part in outdoor child-chosen and adult-led activities, as well as those provided in the indoor playrooms.

Activities include painting, stories, singing, drawing, water & sand play, dramatic play, musical instruments, natural and malleable materials, construction toys, mark making, pre-reading games such as lotto and snap and pre-maths games such as dominoes and puzzles.

We also introduce ITC to our children through our iPads, laptops and audio books.

Children’s gross motor skills are exercised through our climbing frame, movement to music, parachute games and regular PE sessions.

We work on a theme for each half term, broken down for each week of the term.

Visitors and visits

We have visitors to preschool and these include parents who do interesting jobs or are able to help with reading, ICT and baking. We also have Jo Jingles in for music and dance and once a year we have visits from The Bug Man, Munchkin Sports, Bromley Fire Brigade and Bromley Road Safety Team also come in once a year.

We have regular visits to Petts Wood Library and our leavers go to Fired Up for a morning out.
